DTAC offers residential treatment programs at our locations in Lewisburg, Danville, and Coal Township, PA. At our residential facilities, we provide specialized treatment and services to help at-risk male children, adolescents and their families. We utilize a progressive treatment model in a warm, family setting to help individuals feel safe and welcomed during treatment. Our programs also place a focus on systematic community reintegration. At DTAC, our core values of integrity, kindness, empowerment, and respect are helping us achieve our mission of serving children, adolescents and their families in a stable and safe environment where one’s potential, personal strengths and relationships are the basis for life long change and self-sufficiency.
Our Residential Treatment Programs
Why choose residential treatment for adolescents? According to the National Institutes of Health, inpatient treatment for adolescents with mental health issues is effective in stabilizing symptoms. At DTAC, our residential treatment facilities are licensed and accredited in order to provide the highest-quality treatment for our clients.
Our Residential Treatment Facilities are dually-licensed by the Department of Human Services’ Office of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and Office of Children Youth and Families, accredited by the Joint Commission. These specialized residential treatment facilities provide intensive psychiatric clinical services to emotionally distressed and behaviorally impaired children, adolescents, and their families referred by the family, juvenile justice, child welfare, and/or mental health systems in a non-institutional, rural setting. Our unique accreditation and programming ensure that DTAC can serve more clients with fewer funding barriers. Funding is provided through County Child Serving Agencies, and Medicaid is accepted.
In our residential treatment programs, our professional team treats individuals that have experienced physical, emotional, and/or sexual abuse as well as those who exhibit behavioral problems that require intervention. Clients receive the following targeted services:
- Trauma-focused cognitive-behavioral therapy (TF-CBT)
- Strategic family therapy
- Motivational interviewing
- Comprehensive individual and family treatment services
- On-site, individualized educational programming provided by certified special education instructors (IEP)
In DTAC’s clinical model, we utilize both behavioral and cognitive therapies. Through weekly psychotherapy provided by a mental health professional, multiple daily therapy sessions facilitated by a nationally certified treatment specialist, and weekly family therapy sessions, clients begin to heal.
We use a number of evaluations and assessments to determine the right treatment plan for each client. These include:
- Psychiatric evaluations
- Psychological evaluations
- Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations
- CAFAS® – Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale
- UCLA PTSD Index for Trauma
- PROFESOR – Protective + Risk Observations for Eliminating Sexual Offense Recidivism
- Other assessments available as required
Foster Care – Community Residential Rehabilitation/Host Home Program (CRR-HHP)
Diversified Treatment Alternative Centers provides temporary and long term foster family living arrangements for clients that have successfully completed DTAC’s residential program. The program will, on a case by case basis, accept emergency foster care placements with youth that await placement at DTAC’s residential program.
Each of our clients has a case manager who provides supportive counseling in addition to weekly therapy sessions with a mental health professional. Clients live with a host family in the community who provides structure and support along with ongoing family therapy with families of origin. DTAC also provides orientation and training for all families included in this program.
Residential Treatment Program Locations
DTAC offers three residential facilities in central Pennsylvania. At these locations, we provide programs for at-risk youth who have experienced emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse and have subsequently begun to act out or are exhibiting harmful behaviors. Intensive treatment occurs at all locations with a focus on accountability, competency development, and protection of the community in the early stages of treatment. We have a strong emphasis on reintegration, reunification, and relapse prevention.
Lewisburg Residential Treatment Center
Our Lewisburg Residential Treatment center began in 1991 as our first treatment program. This center offers 20 beds and sits on nearly 18 acres of land. The center is housed in a fully restored historic farmhouse of about 12,000 square feet and offers communal areas and administrative office space. The house is a historical piece of Pennsylvania architecture. With a pond at its center, the grounds are a beautiful expression of rural Pennsylvania.
Danville Residential Treatment Center
The Danville Residential Treatment center was our second program to open in 1994. This center offers 18 beds and sits on 10 acres of land, creating a safe and serene space for healing. It offers over 6,000 square feet and includes communal areas, an administrative office, and private therapeutic offices. At this treatment center, our clients can heal in a relaxed, serene environment.
The Cottages Residential Treatment Center
Coal Township, PA
Our latest residential treatment facility utilizes over 18,000 square feet of space that covers three buildings. Two of these buildings provide living space, while the third building is an inclusive center that offers education spaces, communal areas, state-of-the-art gym, and therapeutic offices. The program is located on a sprawling grassy hilltop in rural PA which lends itself perfectly to the serene environment that is so conducive to healing.
The programs make available indoor and outdoor recreational therapy to youth on-site and in the community, at some point during their stay all clients will participate in the following activities. Research shows that exercise can help relieve feelings of depression and anxiety in adolescents. The spacious outdoor areas enable on-site outdoor recreational activities, such as the following:
- Flag football
When our clients reach the appropriate point, they can also go into the community with staff supervision and participate in local social and recreational activities, such as skating rinks, bowling, movies, etc.
All clients will be offered the right to practice religious/spiritual worship according to their religious creed or preference. Visitation to the facility by clergy will be facilitated by the staff based on client/family needs. The program encourages spiritual choice and worship as an integral aspect of human growth and development.
